Yesterday at work Sarah organized a Design-a-thon where a bunch of us got together to bang around on some TypePad design features that are in beta. To motivate us, she offered up some prizes, including a prize for best redesign.
Since I love the design of my TypePad blog (the banner is a Marc Johns original!) I decided to test the features by redesigning an abandoned blog-offshoot I created over two years ago. I had thought I would use it to post poems I really love, but I only ever posted one poem there and then forgot about it.
I used TypePad's Theme Builder to add a banner of my own making and then play around with the background colors. I stole an image from a Google search (this is likely a copyright violation, but it's just a test!) and then put some text into it with Paint. Then I played around with some colors, all in the name of testing, all in about half an hour.
When I submitted my feedback and bug report to Sarah, I almost didn't submit my redesign. But then I did. And I won for best redesign! The prize was a fancy, fancy chocolate bar which will be quite delicious.
Sure, I might have been the only person to enter the contest. But that doesn't make me any less of a winner. \o/
If you want to get the full picture of the trip many 6Aers are taking to Hawaii this week, you have to know all the places where we're posting. We are bloggers, so the trip will be well-documented. Here are some hints:

That's a lot of stalking to do. Several more folks are coming later this week, so I'll add them to this list as they get here. djchall is already packed and ready.
Aloha.
Ayako is in the office this week, and brought me this great little dog tchotchke from Japan! Thank you Ayako, I love it!!
Mena found this little green scooter toy in her office. I added the lizard, as he was just laying on the tchotchke shelf before now. I wonder where he's off to in such a hurry?
I think the cat's out of the bag to most of you, should I just come out and say it: I'm moving back to San Francisco.
Six Apart, a company that I love dearly and have worked for since the summer of 2005, has lured me back. At first it was a difficult decision (anyone who knows me knows I'm exceedingly slow and methodical about making up my mind, and usually unwilling to change it) but I realized - after I got through my stubbornness and anxiety - that this is a great thing!! Special thanks to my boss Alex for being so supportive and also to my good friends who helped me weigh the pros and...well there really weren't that many cons. I'm extremely excited and grateful to have a wonderful job and so many awesome friends and coworkers to come back to!
On a practical note, I'll be looking for a one bedroom apartment (or large studio) during the first half of April with the goal of being moved back by early May, so please send me any leads you may have! It breaks my heart a little to leave Austin because I am and always will be a devout Texan, but Jetblue's direct flights from SFO to AUS starting on May 1st should help me cope. And should give my Austin friends no excuse to not visit me.
So there you have it. Life is unpredictable. Life is good!
