Rudy and Steve logged in for a quick video chat! They made my day.
The biggest thing I miss about being in the office is the camaraderie with my coworkers (and their dogs) so this was a real treat. Camera-derie, if you will. Now I want to buy a webcam!
Being a trained QA engineer, Steve took it upon himself to check the "Odor Sensor" on the office's new Plasma Air Cleaner. See results.
His post passed the test (or maybe I passed the test) when I was able to use it succesfully - hooray!
The Vox This button is supposed to come out in our next release, but in the meantime you can read Steve's post to learn how to use it, like I just did.
Steve says he came to work all dressed up to wish me a belated birthday. I wore black pants today so he could shed all over them. Notice the rhinestone cufflinks on his little tux!
Last year the LJ team spent a lot of time talking about possible improvements to our photo hosting. Brad had all these amazing plans but some of us technologically-challenged types had a hard time wrapping our heads around them. I ended up spending 20 minutes with Brad listening to him until I finally got it, then I decided to present my dumbed-down version to some other non-engineers.
To help everyone visualize the plans, I made several drawings and used them on the whiteboard in our conference room to represent tagging and other features. After the presentation, I decided to give the drawings out to a few people. I gave Garth this one.
It was supposed to represent a photo of Garth eating a cupcake at a party.
Today Garth and Steve decided to re-enact it:
Totally made my day.
I loved watching the first season of Rock Star (INXS), but this time around I have a personal interest in it. One of my dearest friends Steve has worked with Jason Newsted for quite a while, so he's been involved in the show for the past few months. Thanks to Steve I'll be heading to LA to see a taping soon!
Also, one of the contestants, Patrice Pike, has been a fixture in the Austin music scene for more than a decade (maybe two?) My first music industry internship out of college was at Arista Austin, which put out an album by her band Sister 7, and she also played at the Jeff Buckley tribute I put together in Austin in the fall of '97.
They killed it casting the women this season, but where did they find all these weak, uninteresting men?? If they don't choose a woman as the lead singer of Supernova, they're all out of their minds.
Here are my picks after the first episode:
Can't wait to see them again
Dilana
Zayra
StormPatrice
Maybe they'll redeem themselves?
Jenny
Lukas
Toby
Need to pack up and leave now
Magni -- His band is huge in Iceland; nobody here cares.
Phil -- What's with the dozing-off-in-summer-school performance style?
Chris -- He's already alternated between flat-ironing his hair and letting it go naturally wavy. So not rock.
Dana -- Should have auditioned for American Idol.
Josh -- He has no reason to be so smug.
Ryan -- zzzzzz
Jill -- She's way too earnest for this band.
Matt -- Tommy Lee would have eaten him alive.
