It's been about three months since I moved to Austin and started working from home. In the move, I gave up my office desk, obviously, and all of the furniture in my apartment, which wasn't worth shipping cross-country. I also decided I didn't really have room for a desk in my new house either. It's not that I didn't want a desk. My new place has very little storage space, so I had to opt for some drawers and shelves and felt there wasn't enough room for a desk.
Then I realized: I need a desk. As much as I love to write, I can't go without one. There's something about dedicating a clear space to my laptop (or paper), coffee, glasses, pens, candle, tchotchkes, scraps of inspiration; it creates a little temple, a spiritual center of sorts. I know it's just a desk. But it's important to me.
So I set out last weekend to build the smallest and cheapest office possible, and here it is!
I am so much happier now. Desk, I love you.
There sure is a lot of love bubbling up amongst my friends, whether they're dressing up as spouses, matchmaking their infants or trading secret love messages across the internets. It's lovely to have all this love flying around.

So I thought I would share just a partial list of some other main squeezes in my life:

Did you know that iterate and reiterate have the same definition? Same goes for unravel and ravel.
The phrase "The revolution will not be
televised" has been randomly stuck in my head for the past day. Take a moment
to read the poem where the phrase comes from, it's well worth the time.
I'm seven books deep into my quest to read 25 books in 2007. I'm adding them all to this collection:
