Mena dragged me to the Alameda antiques market today, and among the things I purchased is this sign, almost as tall as I am.

I'm not sure where I'll hang it yet.  International living room?  International bedroom (zut alors!)  International kitchen?

You know, the kitchen is where my girlfriends and I celebrate the moments of our lives with General Foods International Coffees.

I took it at my birthday party this year at The Homestead, probably one of my favorite bars in San Francisco.  You can see the little "H" stamped on my wrist.  I had just moved back to the city about five days prior.  The beer I was drinking was dark with coffee and chocolate flavors in it - in short: delicious.  I played a bunch of songs on the jukebox that night.  Even though you can't see them, lots of my friends were there.  This photo makes me really happy.

There is a new kiosk right by my office that serves Blue Bottle!  Best! Day! Ever!

It's been a busy, unpredictable, delightful and confusing year so far.  I'm lucky to have wonderful friends and coworkers and no shortage of delicious things to eat and drink. 

It's been about three months since I moved to Austin and started working from home.  In the move, I gave up my office desk, obviously, and all of the furniture in my apartment, which wasn't worth shipping cross-country.  I also decided I didn't really have room for a desk in my new house either.  It's not that I didn't want a desk.  My new place has very little storage space, so I had to opt for some drawers and shelves and felt there wasn't enough room for a desk.

Then I realized:  I need a desk.  As much as I love to write, I can't go without one.  There's something about dedicating a clear space to my laptop (or paper), coffee, glasses, pens, candle, tchotchkes, scraps of inspiration;  it creates a little temple, a spiritual center of sorts.  I know it's just a desk.  But it's important to me.

So I set out last weekend to build the smallest and cheapest office possible, and here it is!

I bought the desk for $25 at Ikea and the chair was $15.  I opted for Christmas lights to give a nice glow and because a lamp would take up too much space.  I put up four squares of corkboard and loaded them with items from my old desks.  I have just enough room for my beverages, notebooks, pens, glasses and breakfast, lunch or dinner.

I am so much happier now.  Desk, I love you.

For free wi-fi and a tasty soy latte.

Clear evidence I waited too long to make myself a latte this morning.  These beans aren't going to grind themselves.  Luckily I caught my mistake before I put it on the stove.

My right hand man Jeff Klein sent me this page of amazing coffee art.  I can't decide which is my favorite -- the bear, the grinch or the bunny.

They are the percect size for LJ userpics, so of course I had to forward the link to my girl coffeechica.

I think I like the coffee bear best.  Anyone know where can I get one of these??  I want to print these out and bring them to the Blue Bottle baristas.
