It's been over two months since I did a post roundup - did any of y'all forget that I have another blog that I update more regularly than this one?
Last week's posts shared a theme: they were all about some of the art I'll be hanging in my new apartment.
5/27: Tree Stump Phonographs
I commissioned some art from Wexford Girl and coveted some pieces by Mark Fox.
5/28: Play
Once upon a time, a rock star named Moby drew me a special drawing. I framed it.
5/29: Animals & Instruments
I own seven pieces of art by Susie Ghahremani.
5/30: A Lady and A Gentleman from Boston
Check out what Ben and Mena got me for my birthday this year.
And since last week was only a four day (work/blog) week, here's a bonus completely unrelated to art:
5/23: Fire all of your guns at once
I got my motorcycle license!
I had the great fortune to meet one of my favorite artists this week - Marc Johns, better known around here as draw.vox.com!
Marc stopped by the Six Apart office to have a look around and then we headed to the corner pub to have some beers and french fries with Steve and Kimmie.
He even drew another Post-It for Vox!
Bonus: Check out two other Post-It drawings on art is the new religion.
I have an especially big crush on my Vox neighborhood lately.
Firstly, there was the unveiling of the new blog banner I commissioned from Draw (a.k.a. Marc) for my TypePad blog. Isn't it beautiful?
I also really loved this photo ydnar uploaded for me, but I can't figure out how to add another Vox This link into this post...
Finally, when M-----l offered up a real handwritten letter to anyone who wanted one, I jumped on it. And he wrote me this great letter that made my day:
My right hand man Jeff Klein sent me this page of amazing coffee art. I can't decide which is my favorite -- the bear, the grinch or the bunny.
They are the percect size for LJ userpics, so of course I had to forward the link to my girl coffeechica.
I think I like the coffee bear best. Anyone know where can I get one of these?? I want to print these out and bring them to the Blue Bottle baristas.
I'm so proud of my dear friend Blakely, who recently reopened her boutique after completing a green remodel. Here's part of what she said in a recent email:
It has been over 4 years now and we have been through several remodels, carried over 350 San Francisco and Bay Area clothing and accessory designers and have garnered a lot of support from great people like you who have continued to think global and buy local! RAG has been working at becoming an SF certified Green Business, so stay tuned because we will have a big weekend celebration for our certification and reopening with locally-grown foods and other eco-friendly treats towards the end of April!
I've sold my own creations in RAG and spent many days filling in behind the register for Blakely. It's a cute boutique with tons of great stuff, and such a great way to support local designers. Plus, Blakely is Chupa's mom, and you know how much I love Chupa the chihuahua. Do you see him in the photo?
Check out RAG co-op at reet in Hayes Valley (San Francisco, CA).
I ran into my dear friend Aaron Burtch backstage at the Bright Eyes show at Great American on Saturday night. I met Aaron back in '99 when he was the drummer for Grandaddy and I was working for their label V2 Records.
Aaron is an awesome visual artist. Check out his work here.
What are your three favorite album covers of all-time? Any honorable mentions?
Question submitted by Tamara.
Questions like this stress me out, because in the instant that I'm asked I can never remember what I like. Also, I can never narrow my favorites down to a handful, so I just default to whatever comes to mind. Furthermore it's nearly impossible for me to separate the album cover from the music, so here you go:
Honorable mentions:
