Yesterday when I was catching up with my friend and coworker Kristine, I asked her about her knitting and also her "craft room" that she'd mentioned. As she described this room of hers entirely devoted to sewing, creating and crafting, I swooned a bit because I've always wanted a room like this. I asked her to blog photos of it and she did! I loved reading and seeing all about it.
While I was on Kristine's blog, I noticed one of her Vox neighbors was called Cocktails @ Five. I liked that name so I clicked through to her blog. And, thanks to her, I saw this amazing video that makes me super happy.
Yesterday at work Sarah organized a Design-a-thon where a bunch of us got together to bang around on some TypePad design features that are in beta. To motivate us, she offered up some prizes, including a prize for best redesign.
Since I love the design of my TypePad blog (the banner is a Marc Johns original!) I decided to test the features by redesigning an abandoned blog-offshoot I created over two years ago. I had thought I would use it to post poems I really love, but I only ever posted one poem there and then forgot about it.
I used TypePad's Theme Builder to add a banner of my own making and then play around with the background colors. I stole an image from a Google search (this is likely a copyright violation, but it's just a test!) and then put some text into it with Paint. Then I played around with some colors, all in the name of testing, all in about half an hour.
When I submitted my feedback and bug report to Sarah, I almost didn't submit my redesign. But then I did. And I won for best redesign! The prize was a fancy, fancy chocolate bar which will be quite delicious.
Sure, I might have been the only person to enter the contest. But that doesn't make me any less of a winner. \o/
