I've been MIA here and on my other blog, and it's because I just got back from San Francisco for an intense week of work. Fortunately I work with some of the best people I've ever met, so it's not all work, as you can see from this photo (stolen from Kimmie!) of us crammed into the photo booth at our holiday Six Aparty.
Eno belongs to my good friend Chad.
This song was magically stuck in my head this morning, and I want it to be stuck in your head too. Feel free to clap along:
Anyone care to translate what rolls across the screen in the beginning?
Over on my other blog...
12/28: Feliz Navidad Part 2: Jose Feliciano Concert Review
This is the follow up to the cliffhanger of Feliz Navidad, Part 1, featuring grizzled keyboard players, blue humor, no love for the five string bass, and much love for Jose's languid vibrato.
1/2: Show Review: Kathleen Edwards & Davíd Garza
Good times and old friends at the Continental Club, and a slightly embarrassing shout-out from the stage.
1/3: Slice of Austin Life: Dale Watson at Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon
I dragged my friend Elise to Ginny's for some of Dale Watson's crooning, but I didn't make her watch the chicken&$^@ bingo. Bonus: two quick videos from my digital camera.
1/4: Celine Dion is _____.
If you haven't already seen this video, I give you this chance to laugh.
1/7: The Diving Bell and The Butterfly
I read the short book in anticipation of seeing the film. Whether or not you see the film, I tell you exactly why you owe it to yourself to read Jean-Dominique Bauby's story in his own words.
1/8: Wainy Days
David Wain from The State and Wet Hot American Summer is up to some more shenanigans.
1/10: CBC Radio 3: A Trip To The Great White North
Are you still reading? This is a good radio station from Canada.
1/11: Meet The New Steve Perry
I still love the old Steve Perry, but this new guy's got an amazing story, thanks to the miracle of YouTube. Bonus: I make my case for Sam Cooke's influence on Perry's vocal stylings.
Our very first Austin Voxer meetup is scheduled, and you're invited:
Wednesday, January 16th
7pm
at Spiderhouse Cafe
2908 Fruth Street, Austin TX, 512.480.9562 (map)
All current and future Voxers, bloggers and users of Six Apart's
blogging tools are invited! As your representative from Six Apart, I will have some Vox goodies to hand out. I'll probably
find a spot for all of us outside, unless it's too rainy or cold (ha!) in
which case we'll try to huddle together inside.
A few of you noted you couldn't make it on Wednesday, and I'm sorry we won't see you! But hopefully we can make this a regular meetup and we'll see you next time.
Please comment to this post to RSVP to let me know you're coming!

I'm putting together a Vox meetup in Austin, but I need a little feedback before I finalize the details. If you'd like to get together with other Austin Voxers, please comment with your thoughts on:
date
I'm considering Wednesday 1/16 or Thursday 1/17. Does that work for you?
time
It looks like 7pm is a good start time, but could we do it any earlier? Maybe 6pm?
location
I'm thinking a coffee shop that also serves drinks is a good idea, and maybe even a place that serves food. What about Clementine or Spiderhouse? Some place with indoor and outdoor areas and ample parking -- the Mean-Eyed Cat? Any other suggestions?
etc.
Do y'all know of any other type of blogger or tech meetups that happen in Austin?
stuff
I will bring Vox t-shirts and tchotchkes to the meetup.
Please comment if you're interested in attending, and include any ideas or feedback that you have!
