Everything old is new again! I went to Amoeba this weekend to trade in a bunch of CDs I've accumulated from SFist and get some new ones. After hearing about it for months and months, I finally got Jose Gonzalez' Veneer.
Gonzalez does a nice job of melding sparse, hypnotic fingerpicking with mellow folk moodiness. Listen to "Crosses" from the album:
I also bought the new PJ Harvey and then yesterday I got a promo of it in the mail. @#%
I'm having an especially music-obsessed week. Yesterday and today, all I want to listen to is The Knife.
If you like Goldfrapp, Bjork's Homogenic, Ratatat -- then your life will be enriched by this Swedish sibling duo.
If you have a Rhapsody subscription, you can hear tons of their music. Or you can tune into this jukebox.
Inspired in part by Adriana and Alaina's recent run in the New York City marathon, I just signed up for the California Academy of Science's Run Wild 5K/10K through Golden Gate Park on November 26th.
I've never run 6.2 miles before, but I did log 4 miles (in a row) on a treadmill a few months ago and I just bought some new running shoes from Sports Basement that actually fit! (I had no idea they made narrow width running shoes.) I'm not a Serious Runner by any means and have no ambitions (or willpower) to run a marathon in this lifetime -- I'm just looking for a challenge.
There's plenty of time to sign up if you're interested.
Harold is a really good friend. Because of his generosity, I'm now listening to Ys on my headphones!
Little pieces of all the bands you've been digging over the past five years, all rolled up into a sound you haven't quite heard before.
I'm really liking this band, despite the fact that they have a song ("Cheer It On", the album opener) wherein they sing "Tokyo Police Club", meaning they either named themselves after a song or wrote a song with their band name in it. Both of those scenarios seriously irk me.
Are you tone deaf?

I just took the test while eating lunch at my desk, using headphones to try to block out the lively discussion going on behind me (excuses, disclaimer, etc.). I got 86.1%.
