The Tipping Point: Rihanna

It's not like I didn't like Rihanna before; I enjoyed "S.O.S." (despite the over-familiar sample), "We Ride" and whatever song I heard of hers on the radio or saw her performing on TV. I just never really registered more than a passing enjoyment of her stuff.

But after I saw this performance of "Umbrella" on the MTV Movie Awards, I'm now a Rihanna fan.

That song is so bizarre, it makes no sense as far as pop or R&B songs go, which is maybe why I love it. Plus the outfit and the umbrella choreography are so old-school and derivative but she makes them seem almost fresh again.

And now I'm off to listen to her new album Good Girl Gone Bad on Rhapsody.

Its funny you should post about Rihanna today - I heard her several times last week (I never watch VH1 at home, but in the hotel I flipped through it more!). I really like this song but I can't put my finger on why. I don't have barely any R&B in my music library, but this one is catchy and pop-y enough that it catches me, I suppose.

I added Umbrella and "Shut Up and Drive" to my list of songs to get in the near future on iTunes. :)
